The reason I decided to pick the impact of Covid-19 on the Music Industry is because of my love for music. Me being a musician who has played guitar for many years now and would like a role in the music industry also played a role in me picking this topic. The creative sector as a whole was severely effected by the pandemic and let to cuts to the sector by politicians. I believe the creative sectors, especially the music sector is incredibly important and a huge source of entertainment for the world. Millions lost jobs and had to stop doing what they love. Either as a hobby or full time employment. My cousin was a big help in this as he is a touring musician and has toured all over the UK. He gave me an insight into how the pandemic went for him and his band. You can hear some about this in my Podcast interview with him. I also used many websites and utilised social media in order to see other musicians experiences. I found positive experiences typically came from older famous musicians such as Paul McCartney and Elton John, as they had the time and finances to write, record and release full albums during the pandemic which lead to commercial success.
The main points I researched was the decline of the music industry when the pandemic hit and lockdown was introduced. How much the value of the industry suffered and other statistics about employment. You can see the statistics in my other blog post "The Impact of Covid-19"
My blog would be aimed at mainly those in the Music Sector, artists, producers, venue owners, sound engineers etc. They would be able to share and compare experiences. Those looking to get into the music industry would also be a target audience, if they were curious about what artists had to go through during the pandemic. Theres an opportunity to expand my blog and focus on music in general as well, turn my blog into a space to share music between people. I believe my blog would eventually turn into this as there is only so much content about the Covid-19 pandemic before I think my blog would get stale and boring. It would allow me to keep the longevity of the blog and attract a wider audience.
